Neomycin sulfate soluble Powder
Veterinary use only
Main Composition:Neomycin sulfate
Description:This product is off-white to yellowish powder.
Pharmacologic action:
Pharmacodynamic Neomycin belongs to the class of aminoglycoside antimicrobials, with an antimicrobial spectrum similar to that of kanamycin. It has strong antibacterial effect on most gram-negative bacilli, such as Escherichia coli, Proteus, Salmonella and Pasteurella multocida, etc. It is also sensitive to Staphylococcus aureus. Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Gram-positive bacteria (except Staphylococcus aureus), rickettsiae, anaerobes and fungi are resistant to the product.
Pharmacokinetics Neomycin is rarely absorbed when taken internally and applied topically; only 3% of the total amount is excreted in the urine after internal administration, and most of it is excreted unchanged in the feces. Absorption may be increased by inflammation of the intestinal mucosa or by the presence of ulcers. Injectable administration is rapidly absorbed, and the in vivo process is similar to that of kanamycin.
Drug interactions
(1) Combined with macrolide antibiotics for the treatment of mastitis due to gram-positive bacteria.
(2) Internal use may affect the absorption of digitalis drugs, vitamin A or vitamin B12.
(3) Combination with penicillins or cephalosporins has a synergistic effect.
(4) The antibacterial effect of this product is enhanced in alkaline environment, combined with alkaline drugs (such as sodium bicarbonate, aminophylline, etc.) can enhance the antibacterial efficacy, but the toxicity is also increased accordingly. When the pH exceeds 8.4, the antibacterial effect is weakened.
(5) Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, NH4+ and K+ and other cations can inhibit the antibacterial activity of the product.
(6) Combining with cephalosporins, dextrose, strong diuretics (e.g. furosemide, etc.), erythromycin, etc. can enhance the ototoxicity of the product.
(7) Skeletal muscle relaxants (e.g., succinylcholine chloride, etc.) or drugs with such effects may enhance the neuromuscular blocking effect of this product.
